Birds and hummingbirds

Hummingbirds visit the garden flowers and mornings arrive with birdsong from the trees. Bring binoculars, a coffee and some patience; the finca does the rest.

Here the alarm clock sings.

You don't have to go far to see birds here. Among the flowers, the trees and the edge of the forest, hummingbirds and other mountain species come and go; every now and then we share a hummingbird filmed in the garden on Instagram. It's a quiet, self-guided experience: no schedule, no script, just whatever the day decides to show you.

Where and when to look

Early morning and late afternoon are usually the liveliest times. Watch the hanging flowers in the garden: hummingbirds keep coming back to the same ones.

The upper terrace makes a good lookout, with a hammock, rocking chairs and a view of the green. You'll hear a lot before you see it.

Watching without disturbing

Move slowly, keep your voice low and stay a few metres from the flowers. Skip the flash and don't play recorded calls to attract birds.

If you like keeping a record, free apps such as eBird or Merlin help you identify species and add your sightings to citizen science.

If you want to go further

The region is famous for its birds. Cocora Valley is home to the yellow-eared parrot, which depends on the wax palm, and there are cloud-forest reserves with birding trails near Salento.

We're happy to recommend routes and help you reach local guides. Those outings are run by outside operators, not by the posada.

Tips

  • Leave your coffee things ready in the shared kitchen the night before.
  • A small notebook beats a phone.

What we don't promise

  • No guaranteed sightings: birds show up when they please.
  • The posada does not run scheduled or priced guided birding tours.
  • We don't publish a verified species list for the finca.
